Why Do I Need A Savior?

Picture this…

A community pool on a hot summer day with 100’s of screaming kids.
Through all the chaos, there is one sound a lifeguard will hear…
And that is the cry for help from a drowning person.

Now picture this…

Same scene, and you are splashing, playing and having a great time when all of a sudden the lifeguard latches on to you and drags you to the edge of the pool. This would probably create confusion and irritation. You, more than likely, would ask the lifeguard what they are doing. Confusion would increase when the lifeguard says, “I’m saving you.”

This is much like the confused reaction people have when they only hear part of the story of salvation. If you don’t know why you need to be saved you will be confused and irritated that someone would suggest you need to be saved.

So…here’s the reason we all need to be saved. We have all broken God’s laws…we’ve lied, or we’ve stolen, or we’ve fornicated, or we’ve lusted, or we’ve used God’s name as a curse word…that’s just to name a few.

God’s word makes it clear that if we are guilty of just one sin it is enough to send us to hell forever.

Our sin has put a wall of separation between us and God. When we know this to be true, we are ready for the Good News. The truth is, above all the chaos of the world, the voice God will hear is the one that calls out to Him, “Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner.” God’s love, mercy and grace is demonstrated in that He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die a brutal death on the cross, rise on the third day to defeat sin and death so that all who repent (turn from sin) and put their faith in Him alone for salvation will be saved. The harsh reality is, if we ignore His warning we will face God’s wrath on Judgment Day…we will be without excuse.

Keep in mind that if you are saved, your life will look different; you will start to love the things God loves and hate the things God hates (He hates sin). If these changes don’t take place, then it is likely you are not born-again and you need to repent and trust in Jesus today; we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
